Flicker by Kaye Thornbrugh, Book Review

Blurb from the book:

When sixteen-year-old Lee Capren is spirited away to Faerie, she is forced to serve capricious faeries as a prized portrait artist… and live as their prisoner.

A chance encounter with the charming Nasser grants Lee a chance for freedom—but what felt like mere days in Faerie spanned years in the human world, and Lee no longer has a home to return to.

Nasser is a Seer—a human with magical powers—and Lee is quickly plunged into his world: a sprawling city teeming with magic and mystery, where supernatural creatures walk hidden among humans. With the help of a rag-tag group of teenage Seers, Lee must master her newfound magical talent and outwit a cunning faerie determined to destroy her.

My Review:

Flicker was an easy book for me to get into and I was drawn to the characters whose personalities were very diverse and interesting.  Filo was so unique in an angry, bad boy, 'I know more than you do and I will only tolerate you', kind of way!  Lee was sweet and naive, yet she had a dogged determination that I admired in her.  Nasser, Jason and Alice were also engaging characters that I enjoyed getting to know.  The book was interesting and kept my attention as I tried to figure out where the author was going with the story.  Lee had been freed from the faeires, so what was next?  I don't agree with reviewers revealing spoilers in their reviews so I will not give exact details.  However, I will say that at about halfway  in the book I had no idea what direction the story would take.  What Neman and Morgan did at the end of the book didn't make sense to me and I felt like they acted out of character.  Concerning Lee's mother, I just don't believe that a teenager would give up so easily regarding that matter.  It didn't ring true to me, especially after what she had been through.  However, I enjoyed the book and felt compelled to finish the story.  That said, I would read another book from Kaye Thornbrugh!

Rating:  Mild cussing/clean in the romance department
